POSSESSING THE PROMISES OF GOD

*The notes are from Eric Morgan who led Prayer Tools class at Gateway NRH on Saturday night

Read Proverbs 3:1-2 & Proverbs 4:20-22 – Explain

The word is a sword designed to pierce the heart, not be filtered through the mind.  Believe and God will give you understanding, but if you insist on understanding prior to belief you will actually deny yourself access to the promise.

Paul said it is the wisdom of men empties the cross of its power…

It is the Holy Spirit’s sword – Use the sword example

Romans 12:2 – Discuss how we approach the Lord & His Word.  Share the vision I had about approaching God, laying down my sword, taking off my breastplate, and kneeling down.

“Our mind is either being renewed or at war with God & His view of us.”             -Bill Johnson

It takes a shift in our thinking that the Word of God is not just a future promises, but provision for today.  This mind set will cause us to miss God’s provision for today.

“God will never violate His word, but He loves to violate our understanding of His word”  -Bill Johnson

*Example: Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead – the Kingdom of God is at hand

Message Text: Mark 4:35-41“Let us crossover to the other side…”

-A furious storm arose – persecution comes because of the word.  Mark 4:17

-Strength comes by resistance training.

*The enemy will always attack us in whatever area God is speaking to us.  His intent is to steal and destroy the Word of God in us.

From the time of Herod until now, the enemy has set out to kill, steal, and destroy the word of God, and keep it from taking root and producing its intended harvest in the hearts of men.  This harvest is for far more than health, wealth, and comfort, it is life itself and conforming us to the image of His Son is the highest goal.

THE ENEMIES OF US CROSSING OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE:

  1. Fear – paralyzes & empties us of faith.  Fear is the hearts response to present reality and the belief that what the enemy is telling you is true.  Fear is a prophetic spirit from the devil that takes you into the future and discourages you.
  2. Taking up an offense – Getting mad at God –or- despising the blessing of another.
  • Getting mad at god

Proverbs 19:3 AMP – “The foolishness of man subverts his way [ruins his affairs]; then his heart is resentful and frets against the Lord”

Other examples: Job, The story of the women who fell asleep on her baby

  • Despising the blessing of another – This will always produce bareness Example: Michel when she despised David 2 Samuel 6:16&23Traditions of Men – This ultimately speaks to our stewardship of the Word of God.  Two traps to look out for:
  • Discounting God’s word to us based on the outcome of another
  • Limiting the Word of God based on our current circumstances/level of experience.  Read Proverbs 14:14

“A lower man finds satisfaction from a lower reality, the spiritual man will only be satisfied by heavens reality” COME UP HIGHER

KEYS TO CROSSING OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE

1. Trust in the LordProverbs 3:5-6

The core issue is, do you really believe God?

-One walking in the supernatural will usually have more questions than answers.  We must decide we want Jesus more than we want answer to our questions.  *This brings great rest, and rest releases the greatest violence in the spirit.

-The work of God is to believe – John 6:29

2. We must believe that God is good – While spending some time with the Lord I clearly heard Him say “One can never experience the goodness of God until he first believes that God is good.” James 1:17, Romans 2:4.

-Discuss the sacrifice of praise – examples King David, Job, Bill Johnson

3.  The words of your mouth

The words of a man’s mouth bind him –or- snare him Proverbs 18:20-21

-A man’s mouth sets the course of his life. James 3:3-4

-A man’s faith is revealed by what darts out of his mouth in trouble.  The mouth tells on the heart.  Faith is in two places: the mouth & the heart.  Faith resides in the heart and is demonstrated, measured, and released through the mouth.

*My words might change your mind, but His words will change your life.

In Conclusion: The Lord says: “I love you son/daughter, you are going to make it.”  When the whirlwind comes the wicked are destroyed, but the righteous have an everlasting foundation.  God is bigger than your circumstances.
