In the Old Testament we were introduced to God the Father in all of His authority and beauty.
In the New Testament we were introduced to Jesus, God the Son. In Him we saw the character of God.
Today God the Holy Spirit is being revealed. He is showing us the heart of God in and among us.
Even though I grew up in a church where we believed in the Holy Spirit and His gifts, I didn’t really get Him. I was uncomfortable with who He was so I kind of just disregarded Him. In fact, “HE” was an” IT” to me. The Great Climax
Jesus said “It is profitable for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby- One that can always be relied on, as in an emergency) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].” John 16: 7 Amplified
We are meant to be in “close fellowship” with the Holy Spirit.
When I began to utilize the gift of tongues everyday more and more things started to change for me, things like the way I thought, loved, lived, and knew God. So yeah, my WHOLE life changed. But something very unexpected changed, when one day I was praying and the Holy Spirit went form being an “it” to being a “Him” in my heart. I knew I had been fellowshipping very intimately with the Lord for months but that day The Holy Spirit moved past my intellect and fear of what I did not completely understand and revealed Himself to me. I began to worship Him and cry with such emotion. It was the day that I realized I had fallen head over heals in love with Him. I need Him everyday. I cannot live without His power in my life.
Because I am in close fellowship with Him I am able to find God’s presence very quickly wherever I am because the Holy Spirit ushers me into God’s throne room.
Praying in tongues helps me to get in the Spirit. It is my favorite prayer tool. And the more I use it the more I am able to shut out the noise of the world that shouts out in chaos, fear, anxiety, sickness, offense, pain, and live in the Kingdom of God. God’s kingdom becomes my reality; it becomes truth when I am in the Spirit.
(BTW Fasting is very effective for this too)
Tongues: It means known languages, unknown languages, and heavenly languages.
Purpose of Tongues
-Empowerment; Prayer; A Sign
The Holy Spirit empowers your words and He changes what comes out of your mouth.
-He gives you articulate abilities
-Exercising the gift of tongues produces love in you.
-It downloads God’s heart and mind as well as MYSTERIES hidden in God to your heart.
1 Cor. 2:9-16, “that is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.”
When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.”
When I was first attending a prayer group with Carin, I would press in hard to the Holy Spirit with my little prayer language, but sometimes I would start to wonder if I had lost the rest of the group. But before I could get too discouraged Carin’s tongues would turn to English just in time to confirm the sensing that I was getting from the Spirit in prayer. God was revealing His secrets to each of us in the group at the same time and we were all praying our part together.
The Holy Spirit moves like this in private spirit led prayer too.
My son was going through something and it was really weighing heavy on my heart but I didn’t know how to pray….So what do we do when we don’t know how to pray?
The Bible says that we should pray in the Spirit and that is what I did. I also prayed that God would give me understanding for what we were praying and pretty soon two words came to mind. They completely interrupted my thoughts and cut right to the root of what my son was going through. Immediately I bound those things in my sons and released the truth of God’s Word to combat the lie until I felt released. I was able to take authority over the enemies plan and I saw near instant change in my son. God reveals secrets to us and empowers us to bring down His kingdom to the earth as it is in Heaven when we pray in the Spirit.
-It builds us into a house of revelation
-It produces Christ in me.
GROANINGS:
Romans 8:26-27 is one place the Bible talks about groanings.
Definition (Greek Steganamous) love secrets, collated expressions, unknown and known tongues.
Jude 1:17-22 (NKV) “But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”
All I ask is that we all choose to not be a mocker of the Holy Spirit whether we understand Him or not today. He is a Person, a part of the Godhead. He can be grieved just like if you walk out of here mocking my teaching it would hurt me deeply.
This is His time to be revealed on the earth. I have it heavy on my heart that today we need to pray with our focus being a release of The Holy Spirit in the church. I want us to agree together in prayer as we invite this part of the Trinity to come and dwell among the Bride. We need Him. So let’s partner with God in prayer like we have been learning to do in past weeks to move God’s kingdom to the earth. “His kingdom come His will be done on earth as it is in heaven”.
A portion of my notes today are taken from Carin Prickett’s Prayer Tools notes. For a more in depth study including scriptures, please contact Gateway Church Prayer Department and request your own copy of her notes. SO GOOD!
These are my notes and are written in a way I can easily refer to them while teaching and not as much written to make an English teacher smile.
